JAZZ PHOTOGRAPHY RECAP: Raíces Performed Cal Tjader’s "Soul Sauce" at JRAC by Harvey Tillis

March 26, 2025 - Raíces (Roots) is a band that pays homage to the originators of Latin Jazz and performs original music in the same style which they did at the Jazz Record Art Collective, JRAC, in Chicago. The release of their debut, self-titled album was well-received and earned the quintet a featured spot at the 2023 Chicago Latin Jazz Festival. Raíces was modeled on the famous Cal Tjader Quintet of the 1950’s & 60’s by the late Chicago percussionist Rubén Alvarez and is now led by vibraphonist Joe Sonnefeldt. Sonnefeldt on vibes, Stuart Seale piano, Eric Ferrer bass, Bobby Delgado drums & timbales, Jorge Leal congas, with special guest  Joe Rendon on bongos & percussion. Visual artist Arthur Wright created original artwork in response to the music.
