In February of 2015 Bassist Wayne A. Roepke suffered a brain aneurysm and for the past 10 months battled to regain his health while in several hospitals, rehab centers, and nursing facilities. Roepke lost his battle and passed away on December 15th 2016. Roepke was a bassist on the scene in Chicago who performed with many of Chicago's elite jazz musicians throughout his six decade career. He was also well versed in many different styles from performing Bavarian music with Jimmy’s Bavarians lead by Jim Bestman and then switching to playing a set of straigh ahead jazz the Chicago Legendary violinist Johnny Frigo. A wake for Roepke will be held December 17th at Morizzo Funeral Home, 2550 West Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL. from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 18 a service will be held at 10am ahead of the Interment at Elm Lawn Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois.
