Phil Varchetta (1920 - 2015) Felix (Phil) R. Varchetta passed away on June 25, 2015 at the age of 94. Varchetta played piano and also lead his orchestra for thousands of corporate events, weddings and private parties throughout his long musical career. I was lucky enough to be hired by Varchetta to perform with him at various corporate events when I first came back to Chicago from college. That was a great learning experience and one I still draw from today when I am working with special events.In addition to performing with him at various private events over the years he also contracted the Ken Spur Trio that performed every Saturday night at the Plaza Club in the Prudential building. Thanks to Varchetta I met pianist Ken Spur and the late Nick Tountas, both of whom helped me to grow as a musician. He will be greatly missed on the Chicago music scene. - Mike Jeffers
